Modern Glass Extension for a Historic Farmhouse in Glastonbury

In this Glastonbury project, our team undertook the unique challenge of designing and installing a glass extension on an old farmhouse. This extension beautifully combines traditional architecture with modern glasswork, featuring an Ultrafine sliding door that seamlessly opens to the garden.

  • Structural glass roof units supported by toughened laminate glass beams and fixed structural units

  • Bespoke from ASG, ‘Frameless’ ultraslim sightline sliding doors

Glass Box Extension Overview

Challenge: The weight and complexity of installing the heavy roof glass presented a significant challenge in this project.

Solution: Our trained team expertly used spider cranes of various sizes to install the large glass panels safely and precisely, ensuring the project was completed to the highest standards.

Key Features of the Installation

This project featured uniquely shaped structural glass roof units, meticulously contoured to match the existing walls of the old farmhouse. Vertical glass beams were strategically sunk into the floor, enhancing the visual appeal and providing a stable structure. Additionally, an Ultrafine 17mm sightline sliding door was installed, allowing for a seamless transition to the garden. Solar control glass was used throughout, adding comfort by managing heat levels in both summer and winter.

Benefits of the Glass Extension

The glass extension provides the homeowner with a year-round retreat, offering a cozy space in winter and a cool haven in summer, thanks to the solar control glass and specialised glass unit makeup. The stunning design also brings a modern touch to the historic farmhouse, blending comfort with aesthetic charm.
